This afternoon, Seals Class walked down to Port Gaverne for Beach School. We began the afternoon by listening to the story The Snail and the Whale. After that, we went on a texture hunt, searching the beach for items that were bumpy, smooth, soft, hard, squashy and wet. We then held a beach long jump competition to see who could jump the furthest well done to Sadie and Harrison for being our champions! To finish the session, we enjoyed some sea-themed storytelling, using the parachute to represent calm waves, stormy seas and jumping dolphins. We also had lots of fun playing a game of parachute fruit salad. #lovelearning #beachschool #portisaac

KS2 Ancient Egyptian Learning at Port Isaac Academy Our KS2 pupils travelled back in time again to discover how the Ancient Egyptians made paper using papyrus plants. They explored why papyrus was so important in Egyptian civilisation and how it was used for writing, record keeping and artwork thousands of years ago. After learning about the traditional process, the children had the opportunity to create their own paper, carefully layering and pressing materials just like the Ancient Egyptians did. They showed fantastic creativity, patience and teamwork throughout the activity. It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm for history and hands-on learning as pupils brought the past to life in the classroom!

KS2 Art & Design at Port Isaac Academy In Art & Design this week, our KS2 pupils will be studying Ancient Egyptian Scrolls. They will begin to understand and apply the styles, patterns and techniques used; ending with designing scrolls, making paper and creating contemporary responses using zines. Today, the children explored the fascinating world of Egyptian art. They discussed who created the artwork, why it was important, and identified the colours, patterns and shapes used in different pieces. Pupils then recorded their ideas through art, experimenting with a range of surfaces, drawing materials and composition techniques to create their own inspired pieces. Fantastic creativity and thoughtful discussion from everyone!

This week at Beach School, the Seals class began by sharing the story What the Ladybird Heard at the Seaside. The children were then set the challenge of creating a castle for the mermaid and all of her friends to live in. Working collaboratively with buckets and spades, they carefully built enough rooms for each of the mermaid's friends. The children also collected treasures from the beach to decorate their castle and even included a moat for protection! During our scientific enquiry this week, we explored whether salt could help shells float by changing the density of the water. The children enjoyed making predictions and observing what happened during the investigation. To finish the session, the children used ocean-themed giant story stones to inspire their creativity and storytelling skills, creating imaginative seaside adventures together. #lovelearning #portisaac #beachschool
